About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

Hillsdale College Online Courses - Excellence In Education

Hillsdale College's records show that "more than one million people have taken one or more of Hillsdale College's free online courses in the past five years, deepening their knowledge of such topics as the Constitution, American history, & free market economics."

Carol & I are about half way through the Hillsdale online course entitled "The U.S. Supreme Court" – long time readers know that the court system is @ the top of the list to understand & expose how the activist courts are grabbing power intended to ruin America.

These online courses are offered @ no charge to anyone who wants to learn.

Hillsdale is distinct from other schools of higher learning in that they do not take any money from the government, even indirectly in the form of grants or loans.  The college relies on tuition of under $25,000 per year & donor support for all of its operations – including the promotion of online courses.

Much like I kept RTE commercial free after Google asked me several years ago if I wanted to advertise – the readership has only increased since then – Hillsdale prefers a similar arrangement of giving away what makes America great for free with these online courses.

Hillsdale writes "Progressives who opposed the ideas of limited government and individual rights began a concerted effort over a century ago to take over America's schools and universities.  Since the late 1960s, to the extent young Americans have learned anything about our country's history, it is more likely than not to be about its faults."  Liberal Supreme Court justices like Ruth Bader Ginsburg think that the country was founded in 1937 instead of 1776.  And in last year's presidential primaries, RTE posts reported, & Hillsdale confirmed "more millennials (America's youngest voters) voted for Bernie Sanders, who proudly espouses socialism, than voted for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton combined."  Hillsdale adds "Given that Millennials recently surpassed Baby Boomers as America's largest generation, this statistic is troubling for the future of our country."

This prompted a long time subscriber to this blog to let me know that Liz Wheeler, One America News Anchor, recently tweeted "My message to the class of 2017: you have a lot to unlearn!"

The above are the types of problems that Hillsdale wants to see reversed knowing especially that "the millennial vote bodes ill for the future."  Nearly 400 students graduate from Hillsdale every year (every Hillsdale student is required to study the Constitution before graduating) but that is a very small number compared to the number of people who take the online courses where Hillsdale is more widely able "to promote America's founding principles & limited government under the Constitution" - a cause that "is so urgent & vital that they should be available to all citizens, regardless of their ability to pay."

If you are interested in pursuing some excellence in education (the online courses are taught by Hillsdale professors & you take the courses entirely @ your own pace) click on online.Hillsdale.edu & then click the red "courses" tab near the top of the page to see the list of online courses available including a short description of each course.  Click on the course you would like to take & once that page comes up – that shows the schedule & list of lecturers – click on "log-in" @ the very top of the page.  From there click on "register" to register with the college & then log-in to the course to get started (@ your own pace).  If you have any questions call 1-517-607-2738 to talk to the course director or e-mail onlinecourses@Hillsdale.edu.

Naturally you can let me know of any problems registering or signing up for a course.  If you want to participate in the Hillsdale online course program I will not be the reason that you don't.

  1. Not for me Doug, not for me.

Since when did progressives oppose individual rights? That's the first position I saw espoused by Hillsdale College when I looked into this online education offering. News to me. That kind of blanket statement always puts my teeth on edge, because I think it is propaganda. I don't think its part of the libertarian platform either.

But then I guess that propaganda works until you begin to look closely at a variety of issues, including Women's health. Then conservatives want to get into every woman's underwear. And I'm not even talking about abortion, just birth control. Are you following the Trump work to allow Companies and Institutions to opt out of Birth Control coverage? Or if you want to talk about legalizing marijuana...., equal pay for equal work, ending racial segregation, ending discrimination and allowing gay marriage, don't look at the Republican Party (Conservatives) for help.

So, where is the libertarian news? Cuz this ain't it my friend.
