About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

A Lesson In Libertarianism

The following message regarding which side of the political fence people sit on was originally written as a pro-Republican internet message.  Despite claims on the internet to the contrary I could not prove that any famous person wrote the piece.

After the Republican version circulated on the internet for awhile a Democrat rebuttal appeared – also see below.

Now most people think they know which side of the two-party political fence they sit on - but you can learn something valuable by reading both presentations below with an open mind & then see what happens if you just read the first sentence & eliminate the second sentence, in red, of each point on both the Republican & Democrat sides of the fence.

Republican Side Of The Fence:

If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.  If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.  If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.  If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Republican is down-&-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.  If a Democrat is down-&-out he wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.  A Democrat demands that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer he doesn't go to church.  A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God or religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs healthcare, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.  If a Democrat decides he needs healthcare, he demands that the rest of us pay for his.

Democrat Rebuttal Side Of The Fence:

If a Democrat is opposed to abortion, she doesn't have one.  If a Republican is opposed to abortion, he tries to ban them for everyone except his wife.

If a Democrat is a vegetarian, it's because he wants better treatment for animals.  If a Republican is a vegetarian, it's because he works for Monsanto.

If a Democrat is homosexual, he supports equality for other homosexuals.  If a Republican is homosexual, he leads a homosexual life in secret while hypocritically condemning that lifestyle in public.

If a Democrat is down & out, he thinks about how to better his situation.  If a Republican is down & out, he blames his situation on Democrats.

If a Democrat doesn't like a television show, he switches channels.  If a Republican doesn't like a television show, he launches a boycott to get the program cancelled so that no one else can watch it.

If a Democrat is religious, he quietly prays in private, as Jesus said one should.  If a Republican is religious, he demands that everyone be forced to pray along with him.

If a Democrat needs healthcare, he seeks to ensure that healthcare is accessible to everyone else as well.  A Republican buys stock in an HMO & campaigns against affordable healthcare.

Instead of reading the above to see whether Republicans or Democrats could be the more clever in a divisive way I saw that the elimination of the second sentence, in red, of each point above shows how much better the world could be if people or governments would not stick their noses in other people's business but rather just minded their own business.  That is the lesson in libertarianism that became clear to me as Republicans & Democrats respectively exchanged conservative & statist positions in this post.

  1. Have seen these before - for myself they are accurate. Your comment below only goes toward people running for office. In the past Democrats gave away so much that they won elections while Republicans tried to second guess them. This year has changed the tone. Most have a candidate where the conventional politician is eliminated (as the song goes "another one bites the dust").

  2. I always said you were a very bright person. You can see both points of view. Your true calling was politics, but perhaps being true and honest (something that people in politics lack) you turned your energy to field that you believed in.

You speak well, get your messages across, have good looks, and are smart (which is a negative in politics), but never too late to start. Only thing you lack, is people with large amounts of money to promote you and your cause.

You take time to see pros and cons of an issue.

Reason Trump popular, people disgusted with both parties, who promise much, deliver little.

  3. Doug - key words - people should not stick their noses in other people's business, nor should governments. HEAR! HEAR! Hit the target as usual. Thank you Doug!
