About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

The Generic Republican Candidate Versus Mitt

"But if a long train of abuses, prevarications, & artifices, all tending the same way, make the design visible to the people, it is not to be wondered that they should then rouse themselves, & endeavour to put the rule into such hands which may secure to them the ends for which government was @ first erected..."  John Locke

There is overwhelming evidence that even BO knows that the supposed gaffe he made in Roanoke on July 13 re "you didn't build that" is damaging his reelection chances.  I say "supposed gaffe" because it was not a gaffe @ all but rather revealed what BO really believes – if he didn't believe it why did he bring it up?  See counter political ad where BO reverses himself saying that "of course Americans built their own businesses" – he just doesn't mention that Henry Ford didn't care either way if "somebody invested in roads and bridges" in the early 1900s or that Steve Jobs developed products that had no demand @ the time of their development.

Now the very poor showing BO has made with his negative ads (& gaffes) over the past several weeks has shaken his timber with his followers & given us a great chance to get rid of him in November except for two things.

First - many of you will remember that before the Republican presidential field took shape in 2011 that a "generic Republican" out-polled BO regularly.  The problem was when you put the names of Mitt, Newt, or Rick in the slot instead of the "generic Republican."  It is hard to beat something (the presidency) with nothing but the "generic Republican" did while the named candidates didn't – boy does that tell you something about what is nothing.  Some of the polls showed BO beating all of these candidates handily meaning that the electorate wanted to get rid of BO but also did not like the alternatives.

Bill O'Reilly sums up the second obstacle for getting rid of BO when he wrote "Last night we told you that 35% of American homes are now receiving welfare payments; 50 years ago that number was 6%. And more workers are on disability than at any other time in the nation's history. Our society is changing from self-reliance to 'give me stuff!' Not everybody on disability is gaming the system and not every family on welfare is taking advantage of taxpayers, but the trend is undeniable. Under President Obama, and even under President Bush the younger, America has moved toward government dependence. That's the primary reason we have $16 trillion in debt and the workplace is stagnant. That's also the reason President Obama's poll numbers remain competitive, even in the face of a terrible economy. Millions of Americans simply want the government to provide, and the President is the provider-in-chief. The 100-million Americans receiving welfare are not likely to be supporting Mitt Romney."

Mitt has been relatively quiet for some time – the press is looking for him to make news like his commenting on the Games in London – where he said nothing untoward (as far as I could see) & then reflectively backed away from whatever he thought he said when the press pounced.  The point is that if Mitt can stay out of the spotlight as BO slips in the polls it is virtually the same as BO running against the "generic Republican" candidate.  Now if only Mitt could hide until after November 6.

But he can't.  There is the Republican convention & of course the debates will once again highlight that BO has a named opponent.  The sooner that Mitt & all of his surrogates, whether official or unofficial just trying to help, can explain the above John Locke quotation properly the better the chance we have to get rid of BO.  Of course this necessitates that a (slim) majority of Americans still prefer the country most of us grew up in.

The above graph shows another chance we have in that many of the youth constituents who voted for BO have become disillusioned because they see no hope or help from him – although I doubt they have yet seen the life of servitude BO has in mind for them.  That surprise is still to come.  Conversely, do the Tea Party voters still have the same enthusiasm they had in 2010 – the answer to this could very well lie in finding out if Tea Partiers got what they were looking for from the new Congress?

I renew my suggestion so that we do not take any unnecessary chances - among your acquaintances, friends, or family members find & convert @ least two, preferably three, statists to vote for anti-statist candidates in whatever level (local, state, presidential) election they are comfortable with in 2012.  If you do this & we lose whatever is left of our way of life @ least you cannot blame yourself.

  1. Ike had the interstate roads built so troops could go North to South, East to West in a timely manor for security of the nation. Not for what BO thinks the roads were built for - government jobs.
